- The Batman, distrusts Superman's intentions.
- Superman regards The Batman as a vigilante.
- A conflict ensues, entailing lots of cgi and quite possible some green meteoritic mineral.
- Meanwhile Lex Luthor, contrives to revive the threat of General Zod, with an experiment that goes awry.
- All hell breaks loose and our erstwhile combatants find themselves forced by circumstance, into an uneasy alliance.
- Things go from bad to worse, with the heroes unable to cooperate effectively against the rampant threat, until...
- Wonder Woman appears on the scene and galvanises their commitment to work together to defeat their common foe.
- Victorious at last, our heroes have discovered a mutual respect and trust for each other, even if they can't see eye to eye over each other's methods.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
Is it just me or is there not any of the main plot points of this film, that haven't been given away by the trailers?

What gets me is that Ben Affleck is about 6' 4" and is taller than Henry Cavill. I feel that, if they're not going to be the same height, Superman should always be a mite taller than Batman. Chris Reeve was also 6' 4", so I guess I can assume that Cavill's Supes is meant to be the same height. However, in the trailers, except when Supes is hovering above the ground, he looks noticeably smaller than Bats. H'mm, that didn't address your question, did it?
ReplyDeleteI hadn't noticed the height discrepancy, I'll keep an eye out for it. It's generally not a problem with film though, they can get round it with framing.

DeleteCavill and Affleck appear in costume on the cover of the current (March 2016) issue of Muscle & Fitness magazine. Cavill looks slightly taller, but, oddly, Affleck looks more pumped up.
ReplyDeleteIMHO, DC is on the wrong track with a Batman vs. Superman movie, and Marvel/Disney is taking a wrong turn with a movie version of Civil War (i.e., Captain America vs. Iron Man). The whole "hero vs. hero" premise is of interest mainly to the hard core fanboys, the Big Bang Theory types who argue for hours about whether Thor could beat the Hulk, or whether Batman is cooler than Wolverine, and so on. Movies are expensive to produce and distribute, and they need to appeal to a much broader audience.
You could be right TC, though I've not really been taken with a fair proportion of the Superheros' latest outings on screen. There doesn't seem to be room for the space the characters need in cinematic narrative. I don't know why, maybe it's all that cgi, because when they do try and explore character, it's clumsy, boring even. One exception would be Guardians of the Galaxy, which was sprinkled liberally with Kirbyesque touches.
DeleteAs you point out, there's so much invested in the success of these cinematic ventures. The budget's are enormous even with a flick with such little visual impact as the latest Fantastic Four effort. The risk that investment represents means there's little tolerance for the occasional indulgences that the comic medium can explore.
